Apply to Transfer to CAL

To apply to transfer to City Arts & Leadership Academy, each student must complete the following steps:

  1. Complete our online ApplicationMake sure to choose the school year you are hoping to start attending CAL when the application prompts you to make a choice.
  2. Send a copy of your transcript, attendance and discipline records to CAL. (350 Seneca Ave, San Francisco, CA 94112). We do not use these documents to determine admission. These documents help us ensure that all our transfer students get scheduled for the courses they need to graduate and get to college, and that transfer students receive the support they need once they join us at CAL.

Transfer Applicants for Next School Year  (ex. 9th grader applying for 10th grade)

If you apply to CAL hoping to transition schools in the summer (ex. you are a 9th grader applying to attend 10th grade at CAL next year), your application is placed into a “pool” along with all applicants who apply before our priority application deadline. At the end of the school year, if we have open spaces in the grade you applied to and we have more applicants than available seats, then we hold a lottery to determine our first round of offers. Any applicants who do not get an offer through this lottery are placed on our Transfer Waiting List and receive offers if new seats become available.

Mid-Year Transfer Applicants

When you apply to transfer schools in the middle of the year, you are automatically placed on our Transfer Waiting List in the order in which you applied. If seats open up in the middle of the year, we give offers to transfer applicants in the order in which they applied and were placed on our Waiting List.
